m+p Analyzer Refines London's Black Cab Design
The London Taxi Company (LTC) has recently been using the m+p Analyzer from m+p international to further improve the noise performance and passenger comfort of its iconic Black Cabs. The system is utilized during product development and in manufacturing for quality control.
LTC performed these measurements in-house using microphones, a driveline speed signal and an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) connected to m+p Analyzer software running on a laptop PC. The system produced real-time colour maps and order tracks of A-weighted noise versus driveline speed as the vehicle accelerated and decelerated.
The ease of use, portability – the system can be moved from taxi to taxi in minutes - and the ability to process and store results significantly reduced the time required to perform measurements.
“Using m+p's system, we were able quickly to identify the issues and the effect of component modifications, which saved us time and money,” said Amit Satav, Mechanical Design Engineer at LTC. “We are now looking to see how we can use the system to investigate other noise and vibration issues with a view to further improvements in design, including forthcoming electric vehicles.”
