Non-Destructive Quality Evaluation of Fruit
The Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology (IICPT)in Thanjavur uses the m+p SO Analyzer software and the m+p VibPilot frontend for non-destructive acoustic measurements of fresh fruit. The results are analyzed in real time to sort the fruit in good and bad quality.
The Institute developed two methods for quality evaluation: The fruit passes through a conveyor system and the small pendulum hits the fruit (Picture 1). The free fall method uses a ball which falls on the fruit (Picture 2).
In both cases, the tapping noise is measured using a microphone and the signals are recorded by the m+p SO Analyzer. The results characterize the quality of the fruit.
